A Wedged-tail Eagle (Aquila Audax) feeds on road kill in outback South Australia. Road kill has become the primary food source for these magnificent birds with an adult wing span exceeding 2.5 meters.

Australia has many bird species. I live 8km from the CBD in Melbourne a city of 4M + people. Despite my large library of bird photos from all over the country I decided to create a gallery of photos taken inside a 60km radius from my house. Much of this area is urbanized. Despite the urban environment wild birds live beside humans. Fortunately a 60km radius encompass some productive areas including the Western Treatment Plant (WPT) South West of Melbourne. WPT is a Ramsar recognised wetland, and its completely human made, it was once the sewerage treatment for Melbourne but has since been superseded. My house backs onto Darebin Creek as it flows through the inner suburbs, allowing observation of its bird population. Surprising what can turn up in suburban yards and parks too.

The following photos are about birds but also the landscape they live in.
