North Shore Geelong. This is the Pivot Fertilizer factory in its last days of operation. Like many industrial areas close to residential lots there is pressure to relocate, thus freeing land for housing (background) or lighter industry. The emittion seen here is only water.
Former salt farm.
The photos above were all taken at an abandoned salt farm near Geelong VIC. Point Henry Peninsular is currently in limbo while decisions are made about its future. The entire peninsular was industrialized, including a now de-commissioned aluminum smelter. That explains the high voltage transmission towers in the background. The water is stained red, not by chemicals, but salt tolerant algae which grows when the water has not flushed in a while. This algae exudes Beta Carotene which dyes the water.
Across Corio Bay, the industry of North Shore can be seen.
From a photography perspective this place is full of details and life despite the saline environment, while the grid landscape worked well with the rectangular frame of a camera.
Maritine North shore
One of the features of North shore near Geelong Victoria is the port area. A lot of bulk products are shipped into and out of this port. I have enjoyed developing an illustrative post capture treatment for these images.
