Machinery that plants and harvests cane is only efficient in straight runs, so the divisions allow for this. New Urban development (lower Right), agriculture yields to urbanization, very rarely the other way around. Middle ground- existing development and urbanization through which a multi lane motor express services a growing population. Background- uncleared forest, not by intent but because the economics were not viable. This forest is now both privately held and some is state owned conservation reserve or national park.</image:caption>
